MultiChoice Gets 1st Nigerian MD 1

MultiChoice has appointed Mr. John Ugbe, a Nigerian, as Managing Director of MultiChoice Nigeria, effective from November 2011.

Ugbe’s appointment marks the first time a Nigerian will head the company in 17 years.
Chairman
of MultiChoice Nigeria, Adewunmi Ogunsanya, described Ugbe as an
experienced executive who will be able to lead the company into a new
period of growth and expansion.

Ugbe joins MultiChoice from iWay Africa Nigeria
with a wealth of experience and proven leadership skills in a number of
different functional areas.
He is also not new to the MultiChoice business having originally joined MultiChoice in 1998 as the IT manager.

When
MWeb Nigeria was created in 2003 John moved over to take up the
position of IT manager, and three years later was promoted to General
Manager (MWeb Nigeria).
In 2007, M-Web was sold and Ugbe moved
over to the new company iWay Africa Nigeria Limited as General Manager
and took over responsibility for management of all business functions.
Ugbe’s appointment follows the resignation of Joseph Hundah who has left MultiChoice to follow other business interests.

“We
would like you to extend a warm welcome to John in his new position as
MD MultiChoice Nigeria.  He is known for his high energy and as a
motivational leader and we believe he will create a culture of
excellence in the Nigerian business which will ignite new passion and
energy in the company,”  Collins Khumalo, President of MultiChoice
Africa, said
