Young Groom Tortured And Left With Multiple Injuries After Wedding Ritual Gone Wrong [Photos]

A young Chinese groom has been left with multiple injuries and a hefty insurance bill after a wedding day hazing ritual turned torturous.

Wedding hazing Chinese tradition aimed at getting rid of evil spirits, but the tradition has been spiraling out of control in recent years with a number of violent incidents reported.

As part of the tradition, 24-years-old Ai Guangtao from southern China was tied up to a power pole and hit with bamboo by friends. He had ink, eggs, and beer thrown over him.

“I was so tortured on my wedding day that I got angry. They chased me, and I could barely see anything because there was ink all over (me),’ he told South China Morning Post.

“Somehow, I ran to the motorway – even after that one of them was still chasing me.”

Mr. Guangtao clambered over the barrier to the motorway to escape the terrifying wedding ritual led by his friends and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. He suffered a fractured skull.

His wedding ceremony was called off as he had to be rushed to a hospital, where he spent a number of weeks recovering. But Mr. Guangtao and his wife were legally married prior to the ceremony.

However, as police believe Mr. Guangtao was responsible for the crash, he now owes 30,000 yuan (AUD $6,200) in damages to the driver’s insurance company.

His friends have raised 6,000 yuan (AUD $1,200) to cover medical bills.
