Philippine Daily reports that Bagtong was arrested, on Thursday, December 5, 2019, after he was seen running from his home as stories of a headless woman began to circulate throughout his village.
After he was arrested, Bagtong admitted to killing the victim near the local cemetery by beheading her using a scythe, found tucked in his waist.
Bagtong said he was drunk and hungry when the woman tried to speak to him in the early morning in English, which he didn’t understand.
“The suspect said he killed the victim because she was speaking in English. This probably irritated him,” the police said.
The man said he saw the woman near a cemetery and hit her on the head with a metal object, before cutting it off and taking it home.
Bagtong allegedly told police that he was very hungry, so he cooked some rice before putting the woman’s brains on top and eating them.
He then threw the victim’s skull in a hole not far from his house.
Police found a bloodstained piece of cloth they believe was used to carry the victim’s head from the crime scene to the man’s home, and the woman’s body was found topless, wearing only jeans on her lower body, and with her hands tied.
Before the incident, witnesses said that they saw Bagtong and the victim together at the cemetery.
Police are yet to file the case against Bagtong and are still trying to work out the woman’s identity.
