A 23-year-old man, Michael Okhide has absconded after allegedly stabbing to death his father, Clement Okhide, and mother, Toyin, in their apartment on Afeez Gbadamosi Street in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the sad incident happened on Tuesday evening, February 4, 2020, when Michael and his parents were at home.

After killing his parents, the drug addicted son allegedly attacked his sister, Mercy, an NYSC serving corp member, who just returned home around 5.30pm, from her primary place of assignment.

Residents were thrown into shock on Tuesday evening when they discovered the lifeless bodies of the man and his wife in their apartment.

Mercy, who was found in the pool of her blood, was rushed to the hospital where doctors are still battling to save her.

Michael, the drug addict who is the first child out of three children, in now on the run.

Although the exact reason for snuffing life out of his parents could not be immediately ascertained, residents said it would not be unconnected with his uncontrollable urge to get some of the illicit drugs at all costs.

One of the residents who described the 60-year-old late lawyer as a no-nonsense man said:

“He had been warning his son against taking illicit drugs but he wouldn’t listen. There had been an altercation between them several times.

“Michael is the first child. The couple had three children. He had gone to three private universities but could not complete his education because of illicit drugs.

‘At a point, he said that his family hated, even when his parents did all they could to make him useful”

A member of the deceased’s family who spoke on the condition of anonymity to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) described the incident as sacrilege. He said,

“This type of tragedy has never occurred in my family. The boy has finally done his worst. It is unfortunate that my brother and his wife lost their lives in the process of trying to ensure he turned a new leaf. Michael has been a thorn in the entire family’s flesh. If you cautioned him, he would snap at you and warn you to mind your business”

Another resident explained that after allegedly committing the act, Michael was seen leaving the building in a boxer short.

This raised brows but no one suspected he would have gone as far as killing his parents.

Neighbours were alerted to his actions when they heard his wounded sister’s screams. They then went into the house to find the parents and their daughter lying in blood.

Michael’s sister, Mercy, said when she got home, she saw bloodstains in the house, adding that her brother allegedly attacked her but she escaped with injuries. She said:

“When I got home around 5.30pm, I met the entrance door open and saw blood on the net. The door to the kitchen was also open but when I entered into the kitchen, I saw that there was bloodstain everywhere and I became scared.

“As I was leaving the kitchen, I heard my mummy screaming my name that I should run, and immediately, I saw Michael came where I was and I saw bloodstains on him.

“He told me to come inside and I refused, so, both of us started struggling and he stabbed me in my stomach and my hands but I was lucky that the cut was not deep.

“He wanted to prevent me from escaping but I was lucky to escape and he ran back inside and later I heard that he ran away and locked the gate with a padlock.”

Policemen from the Ejigbo division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, responded to the scene when they got the report and evacuated the bodies to the morgue. Efforts are being made to catch the fleeing son.
