Armed bandits dressed in military uniforms have reportedly attacked and abducted many students of Government Science College (GSC) Kagara, in Niger State.

UPDATE (1) There are reports that the gunmen stormed the school wearing the same school uniform used by the students in order not to be suspected by members of the school.

UPDATE (2) A student was reportedly killed by the gunmen during a tussle with the security guard, while some others sustained gunshot injuries.

It was gathered that some teachers and their family members residing within the college staff quarters were also abducted by the gunmen on Wednesday morning.

The attackers were said to have stormed GSC at about 2:00 am on Wednesday and started shooting sporadically in the school which has about 1000 students.

Sources within the school management could not confirm the number of persons abducted and those injured as at the time of filing this report.

But it was learnt that a headcount is being conducted at the school in the wee hours of Wednesday to ascertain the actual number of missing students.

A former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, confirmed the attack on the school which is his alma mata. Sani said he has spoken with the principal of the school about the abduction.

He said: “Early hours of this morning, Armed bandits stormed the Government Science College Kagara Niger State,my alma mata,and abducted some students and staff family members.I just spoke to the principal.This is the clip of one of my past visit to the School.”

KanyiDaily recalls that in December last year, hundreds of schoolboys who were also kidnapped in Kankara town of Katsina State, and released a few days later.
