Jarvis Johnson, the Representative of Texas District 139 in the United States House of Representatives, has made some serious accusations against President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

US Congressman, Jarvis Johnson Claims Buhari Govt Is Planning To Assassinate Nnamdi Kanu

Johnson claims that the Buhari government is actively plotting to assassinate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), before May 29, when it plans to hand him over to the incoming administration.

In a letter addressed to the US Congress and dated May 10, 2023, titled “Re: Appeal for Your Urgent Intervention in Urging the Government of Nigeria to Release Nnamdi Kanu from his Extraordinary Rendition,” Johnson has urged his colleagues to promptly intervene and exert pressure on the Nigerian government to release the detained IPOB leader.

The letter, which was made public on Thursday by Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, highlighted Johnson’s concerns about the events surrounding the IPOB leader’s situation.

According to the congressman, Kanu, as a British citizen, legally entered Nairobi, Kenya, on May 12, 2021. However, on June 19, 2021, he was reportedly abducted by Nigerian government agents, subjected to torture for eight days, and unlawfully extradited to Nigeria.

Furthermore, Johnson highlighted the deteriorating health condition of Kanu, emphasizing that he suffers from a serious heart ailment and other health issues, which necessitate immediate and adequate medical attention.

The US lawmaker said: “There is now growing fear/concern that the Muhammadu Buhari administration intends to assassinate or cause Kanu’s disappearance before May 29, when it plans to hand him over to the incoming administration.

“For months now, it is public knowledge that Kanu’s health condition has deteriorated. He suffers from a serious heart condition and other ailments for which he is not getting enough medical attention.

Describing Kanu as a prominent champion of the Igbo people’s quest for self-determination, Johnson emphasized that the Nigerian government’s persecution of him has escalated since his visit to Nigeria from London, United Kingdom, in 2015.

He further stated: “First, few days after his arrival, on October 14, 2015, he was arrested in Lagos by agents of the Nigerian government.

“He was held in solitary confinement by the Department of State Security (DSS). Ultimately, he was granted bail by the Nigerian courts.

“After his release, he resided primarily in his ancestral home in Abia State, Nigeria, with his parents, siblings and other extended family members.”

The US congressman also brought attention to the attack and invasion of Kanu’s home in Abia State by the Nigerian military from October 10 to October 14, 2017. This violent incident resulted in numerous fatalities, injuries, disappearances, and Kanu’s subsequent escape to his London residence.

Johnson’s letter provides a distressing account of Kanu’s abduction on May 12, 2021, in Nairobi, Kenya, as a British citizen, followed by torture endured during the eight days of his disappearance.

He wrote, “On October 10, 2017 to October 14, 2017, the Nigerian military attacked and invaded his home. In the process, dozens of people were killed, many were injured and maimed, while many others were captured alive and have disappeared.

“Fortunately, Kanu escaped the invasion and returned to his London residence to reunite with his nuclear family.

“On May 12, 2021, he traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, as a British citizen and was legally admitted into the country.

“On June 19, 2021, he was abducted by agents of the Nigerian government. He disappeared in Nairobi and was tortured for eight days.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Ohanaeze Ndigbo had also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu before leaving office on May 29.
