Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, claims Cristiano Ronaldo’s power battle with Harry Maguire resulted in his “undermining gain momentum” at Manchester United.
Before the season began, Maguire was deprived of the captain’s armband.
Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils’ manager, has since selected Bruno Fernandes as the team’s new captain.
Prior to that it was Ronaldo who appeared to challenge his authority, which Carragher sees as a watershed moment.
He wrote in the Telegraph: “It was a similar story when Cristiano Ronaldo returned and reports emerged about power struggles in the United dressing room.
“That is when the undermining of Maguire gained momentum.”
It was reported last year that Ronaldo believed he was a better choice to be United captain
Kanyidaily recalls that Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped to his lowest rating in 16 years for EA Sports.
