Speaking during a recent appearance on the Official UK Afrobeats Charts show, the Afrobeats star explained how his global success has shaped the direction of his music.
Davido said that after achieving major international success, he now feels more connected to sounds that represent his African roots.
“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, been at all the award shows, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years.
“Now it is like… I do not want to say I want to go back home to Africa,” he said.
“But even with my music I am making now, it is very African. The music I am recording now is very Davido African, so we have done it and I am not looking to really do Western sounds. This one that is coming next, is very African.”
Davido gained widespread attention in 2012 after releasing “Dami Duro,” a hit track from his debut album *Omo Baba Olowo*.
Since then, he has grown into one of Africa’s biggest music stars and is widely regarded as part of the Afrobeats “Big Three.”
