Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing In Alleged Corruption Case Until March 31

A Federal High Court in Kaduna State has adjourned proceedings on the bail application of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to March 31st, 2026.

The new date was set after both the defence and prosecution presented their arguments during Tuesday’s proceedings.

El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ukpon Akpan, asked the court to grant bail, pointing to his client’s constitutional rights and the need for enough time to prepare for the case.

But the prosecution disagreed, insisting that the allegations are serious and warning that releasing him could affect ongoing investigations.

The former Kaduna governor is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) over claims of corruption and abuse of office during his time in power.

The agency accused El-Rufai of financial wrongdoing while serving as governor.

Security was tight around the court ahead of the hearing, with armed officers deployed across key areas in Kaduna to maintain order as supporters and onlookers gathered.

Journalists, however, were not allowed into the courtroom to cover the session.

El-Rufai appeared in court alongside Joel Adoga, for the case filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.

The charges against them include alleged misuse and possession of public assets, as well as money laundering.

KanyiDaily recalls that the ICPC recently denied claims that it went back to court to request an extension of the detention of Nasir El-Rufai.
