Cook Steals Employer’s $50,000

The
police at Ikoyi Police Division, Eti-Osa, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, have
arraigned a steward, Peter Ogar, 26, and his younger sister, Angela Ogar, 21,
before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing.
The
police alleged that Peter on 27 July, 2011 at Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos
conspired with his sister Angela to steal his master’s $50,000 (about N8
million).
Peter
was said to have given the money to his sister to keep for him at Ojodu area of
Isheri, Lagos.
When
the victim, Mrs. Obechi Okafor allegedly discovered that her money was missing,
she was said to have confronted Peter over the missing money but the steward
denied knowing anything about it.
He
was handed over to the police and during interrogation, the accused allegedly
confessed that he stole the money and handed it over to the sister to keep for
him.

He
led the police to arrest his sister during which substantial amount of the
missing money was recovered.
After
investigation, they were charged to court for stealing. The offences, according
to the prosecutor ASP E. J. Nankurk, are punishable under Section 516 and 390 of
the Criminal Code, Cap. 32, vol. ii, laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Count
2 of the charge reads: “That you Peter Ogar and Angela Ogar on the same date,
time and place in the aforementioned district did steal USD50,000, equivalent of
N8 million, property of Mrs. Obechi Okafor.”
The
accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, G. E.
Fabanwo, granted them bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each in like
sum.
She
adjourned the matter till 27 September, 2011 for mention.
The
accused were ordered to be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons and Kirikiri Maximum
Prisons because they could not perfect their bail conditions.
