Chelsea star, Cole Palmer Wins Premier League Young Player of the Season Award

Chelsea star, Cole Palmer has been named the Hublot 2023/24 Young Player of the Season after an incredible performance this year.

Cold Palmer, an attacking midfielder who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, has had an amazing season.

He just turned 22 last week and has been involved in 32 goals, the highest in the Premier League alongside another player.

He’s only the third player ever to have over 30 goal involvements in a Premier League season at age 21 or younger, joining Robbie Fowler and Chris Sutton.

Palmer is the second-highest scorer in the league, with his 22 goals just behind Man City’s Erling Haaland.

He’s also tied for second in assists, setting up 10 goals, just three behind Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

This season, Palmer is one of only four players to reach double digits in both goals and assists, alongside Watkins, Mohamed Salah, and Anthony Gordon.

He’s also matched a Chelsea record for most home goals in a Premier League season, with 16, tying Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

The 22-year-old has a chance to break this record in the upcoming match against AFC Bournemouth.

Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the Young Player of the Season award since it was introduced in 2019/20.

He might also become the second player to win both the Young Player of the Season and the EA SPORTS Player of the Season awards in the same year, following Haaland’s achievement in 2022/23.

The EA SPORTS Player of the Season will be announced on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 BST.

Cold Palmer topped a shortlist of eight nominees, all aged 23 or younger at the start of the season, winning the award through a combination of public votes and a panel of football experts.

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain, Reece James is facing a setback at the start of the next Premier League season after being given a red card during the match against Brighton.
