Kellyman, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder, has been highly regarded at Villa Park, with Chelsea initially showing interest in January and firming up their pursuit this month.
While Chelsea continues to monitor Villa striker Jhon Duran, they are proceeding cautiously after conducting background checks and negotiating personal terms. Other striker targets include Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier.
Kellyman is set to sign a six-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for an additional 12 months.
Initially valued at £20 million by Villa, he is expected to join Chelsea’s first-team squad for pre-season, potentially followed by a loan spell to gain senior experience.
Meanwhile, Villa has agreed to sign Ian Maatsen for £37.5 million, with the deal expected to be finalized soon.
However, Villa needs to balance their books under financial regulations and may need to sell players.
Kellyman joined Villa from Derby County two years ago and made his Premier League debut in April. He is versatile in various attacking positions, akin to Kai Havertz’s profile, capable of playing as a number 10, winger, or false nine.
Chelsea considers Omari Kellyman as one of England’s brightest talents and opted to secure his services now to avoid future competition.
