KanyiDaily recalls that Speed Darlington was taken into custody by police while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, during the early hours of November 27, 2024, just days after returning to Nigeria.
Deji Adeyanju, who initially confirmed the arrest on his X page, later accused Burna Boy of orchestrating the police action.
He wrote, “Burna Boy behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming Junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi.”

The exact reason for Speed Darlington’s arrest remains unclear, as attempts to obtain clarification from the Nigeria Police Force were unsuccessful.
However, the arrest may be connected to allegations of cyberstalking Burna Boy. This isn’t the first time Speed Darlington has faced such accusations.
The musician was previously detained in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, and held by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in Guzape.
Following several days in custody during his earlier arrest, Speed Darlington was released after meeting his bail conditions.
