“He Started A Fight He Can’t Win” – Wike Tackles Makinde Over PDP Crisis

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has criticised Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde over the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike made the remarks on Monday during a national executive committee meeting of a PDP faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

The disagreement within the party deepened after a court ruling overturned the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, which produced Kabiru Turaki as chairman.

Since the judgement, several party leaders have called on both sides to settle their differences so the PDP can remain strong ahead of the 2027 elections.

On Sunday, Makinde, who supports Turaki’s camp, warned that anyone working with Wike’s group is indirectly backing President Bola Tinubu for another term in office.

“We need Nigerians to judge. If you can be in their camp, where they promised to support the president, so be it. We are not begrudging them. You can support whoever you like to support. But go to them if you want to support them. That is our position.

“They have the government behind them. They have the judiciary behind them. They have INEC behind them. But we have the people behind us,” Makinde said.

In his response, Wike dismissed Makinde’s stance, saying the Oyo governor had taken on a battle he cannot win.

“A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it,” Wike said.

He accused him of worsening the situation within the party without having the political strength to succeed.

Meanwhile, Mohammed confirmed that the PDP convention planned for March 29 and 30 will go ahead as scheduled, despite claims that Makinde’s faction is trying to stop it.

He added that the party remains a strong opposition force and urged members to stay united and disciplined as preparations for the convention continue.

KanyiDaily recalls that Seyi Makinde previously described Nyesom Wike as a vagabond and questioned what he had achieved for the PDP in Rivers
