Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his remarks about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Makinde spoke on Tuesday at the opening of the new Oyo State PDP secretariat.
During the PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Wike had said he was interested in PDP affairs in Oyo and promised to protect the parry from internal “vampires”.
In his reaction, Makinde dismissed Wike’s claim of interest in the Oyo PDP, describing it as amusing.
He describer Wike as vagabond and questioned what he had achieved for the PDP in Rivers before turning his attention to Oyo.
Makinde said those causing problems within the party had already been expelled in November 2025.
He noted that the PDP had now cleared out people he blamed for long-standing internal conflicts.
“In Yoruba land, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” the governor said.
“In 2015, PDP lost power at the federal level. There was a gap in the leadership. Otherwise, those vagabonds would never have been able to take hold of PDP.”
According to Makinde, the group held onto power within the party for nearly 10 years before being removed.
“They grew up in 2015, they had their time, and for 10 years, a decade, they practised their vagabondry in the PDP. But they have been expelled in November 2025. So, there is no more vagabond in PDP,” he said.
The governor also made it clear that the Oyo government is not involved in the party’s internal court cases or national leadership issues.
“Finally, the government has no interest in PDP lawyer states and no interest in PDP nationally,” he said.
Makinde admitted that he once worked closely with the vagabonds after becoming governor in 2019 and leading up to the 2023 elections, but said he had since changed his position.
“Let me confess. I came into government in 2019, and towards 2023, I was yoked with them. But now, I’ve repented,” Makinde said.
He added that he would resist any attempt by them to regain control of the party.
Makinde emphasized that the group’s influence is fading and that they will soon lose relevance entirely.
“For them to hold PDP for another two years, no, no, no,” he said.
“They are wearing rags, dancing around at midnight, and they will soon scatter.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Seyi Makinde recently expressed his desire to run for the presidency, saying he has what it takes to lead Nigeria.
