Tension as Wike, Makinde, Bala Mohammed Clash at PDP National Secretariat

A full-blown confrontation broke out on Tuesday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja as rival power blocs loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) violently clashed over control of the party’s headquarters.

The crisis, which has been simmering for months, escalated dramatically when both camps stormed Wadata Plaza with separate security teams, creating a chaotic showdown that left the entire vicinity enveloped in teargas.

According to reports credited to ARISE News, security operatives attached to Wike on one side and those accompanying Makinde and Bala Mohammed on the other engaged in a tense faceoff that nearly spiraled out of control.

Sources at the scene disclosed that Governor Makinde arrived with the newly elected National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, insisting on taking control of the secretariat. But Wike stood his ground with Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who continues to assert that his tenure remains legitimate until December 8, 2025.

The duel for supremacy forced party elders and stakeholders to raise alarm over the escalating breakdown of order, accusing the police of taking sides instead of maintaining neutrality in the opposition party’s deepening leadership war.

The PDP’s long-running internal crisis now appears to have crossed a dangerous threshold, with Tuesday’s violent confrontation signaling what insiders warn may be the party’s most destabilizing showdown yet.
