Lucky Aiyedatiwa Sworn In As Ondo State Governor

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the governor of Ondo State, securing his first full four-year term after stepping in to lead the state following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in 2023.

The inauguration took place on Monday at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital, two months after he won the governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aiyedatiwa took the oath of office at approximately 12:59 pm, shortly after his deputy, Olayide Adelami. Following the ceremony, he rode through the complex in an open van, waving to an excited crowd of supporters.

With this swearing-in, Lucky  Aiyedatiwa officially takes charge of Ondo State for the next four years.

His journey to this moment was far from easy, as he had to fend off stiff competition from Agboola Ajayi, a former deputy governor who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Aiyedatiwa’s mandate was solidified when he emerged victorious in the November 16, 2024, governorship election.

The results, announced by the Returning Officer, Olayemi Akinwumi, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, confirmed his win with 366,781 votes—more than triple the 117,845 votes secured by his closest rival, Ajayi.

The APC dominated the polls, winning all 18 local government areas in a landslide victory.

Aiyedatiwa initially stepped into the governorship on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Akeredolu, who had transferred power to him before his passing after a prolonged illness.

He later secured the APC’s nomination for the 2024 election, where he faced off against 17 other candidates, including Ajayi, who had previously served as deputy governor during Akeredolu’s first term.

Now officially in office, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is set to lead Ondo State for the next four years, taking on the responsibilities and challenges ahead.

KanyiDaily recalls that Lucky Aiyedatiwa recently dismissed two of his female media aides as part of a restructuring of the Government House Media team.
