The 30-year-old forward, who only joined the National Women’s Soccer League in February 2024 after a decorated spell with Barcelona Femeni, completed her medical on Monday night before finalising the switch.
According to The Athletic, Bay FC and Al Hilal agreed on an undisclosed transfer fee before Asisat Oshoala arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to undergo her medical ahead of the deal.
“Bay FC and Al Hilal reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a medical scheduled for tonight (Monday),” the report stated.
During her stint in the U.S, Oshoala featured in 25 league matches last season, starting 23 of them, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. Across all competitions, she played 38 games and scored eight times.
Her playing time at Bay FC became limited more recently, with head coach Albertin Montoya explaining that her adjustment to the physical and tactical demands of the NWSL had been a challenge.
Montoya noted the league required strikers to contribute heavily both in attack and defense, something Asisat Oshoala was still adapting to.
“In this league you have to, and that’s something that we’re working with her. So when she gets that and has the confidence in front of the goal to score goals and helps us defensively, and that’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively,” he said.
The move to Saudi Arabia is seen as a chance for the six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year to reignite her career.
Oshoala has previously represented top clubs in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., and remains one of Africa’s most celebrated female footballers.
She was also a member of the Super Falcons team that lifted their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy in Morocco in July.
KanyiDaily recalls that Asisat Oshoala previously expressed her interest in finding a boyfriend before December.
