Supporters Join Natasha Akpoti In March To Celebrate Reopening Of Her Office

Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan took to the streets on Tuesday to celebrate after her office at the National Assembly was reopened.

The group marched toward the Assembly complex, having earlier followed her from the FCT High Court, where she faced a defamation case filed by the Federal Government on behalf of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

Earlier in the day, officials of the Sergeant-at-Arms, led by Deputy Director Alabi Adedeji, unlocked Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing.

The move now clears the way for the Kogi Central Senator to return to legislative duties when plenary resumes on October 7, 2025.

Her office had been sealed for six months following her suspension in March over alleged breaches of Senate rules.

The decision drew heavy criticism at the time, especially from opposition figures and civil society groups who described it as unfair.

In July, Natasha Akpoti went to court to challenge the suspension and also attempted to return to plenary, though her efforts were unsuccessful.

The senator completed her suspension this September and immediately wrote to the Senate, notifying them of her readiness to resume.

The Senate leadership acknowledged her letter but insisted that no step would be taken until the court process was concluded.

In its response, the upper chamber said the matter remained before the judiciary and that any decision on her resumption would be tied to the outcome of the appeal.
