Soldiers Trying To Block Me From Entering Osun For Governorship Election — Davido

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering Osun State on Saturday as residents vote in the governorship election.

Davido made the claim in a post on his verified X page early Saturday, August 15, 2026.

He said he had received information that soldiers wanted to prevent him from entering the state, adding that every Nigerian has the right to move freely.

Davido wrote, “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”

His allegation came shortly after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction on movement across Osun.

The restriction began at midnight on Friday, August 14, and is expected to remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of security measures for the election.

Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have been deployed across the state to maintain order during the poll.

Davido, who is a nephew to Governor Ademola Adeleke, has openly supported his uncle’s campaign as he seeks another term in office under the Accord Party.

The governor is facing several challengers, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the off-cycle election.

Davido’s post attracted widespread attention online, with Nigerians offering different views on the situation.

While some argued that the incident could be linked to the general restriction on movement during the election, others questioned whether the singer was being singled out because of his support for the incumbent governor.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described Davido’s complaint as dramatic.

He pointed out that security agencies had already announced the movement restriction across Osun.

“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.

“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” Ahmad wrote.
