32 killed in a ghastly motor accident in Katsina

Kankia (Katsina) – No fewer than 32 persons were burnt to death in an accident that occurred in Rimaye village in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday.

An eyewitness said on Friday that four other persons were injured in the accident, which occurred at about 11 p.m. when a Volkswagen golf car and a J5 bus coming from the opposite direction collided.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the Volkswagen car with registration number AG 59 MAN, carrying eight passengers, lost control while negotiating a sharp bend and had a head-on collision with the J5 bus.

It was gathered that the impact of the collision resulted in a fire which engulfed the two vehicles.
A total of 24 persons were said to have died in the bus, which was going to Funtua from Katsina, while all the eight passengers in the golf car traveling to Katsina from Funtua, died.
The remains of the victims were buried in a mass grave, while the four persons who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the Kankia General Hospital
