The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has directed its members across the country to begin a nationwide warning strike from tomorrow (Wednesday, December 18).
The association agreed on the strike action at its emergency delegates’ conference in Minna, Niger State capital. They had given the Federal Government several ultimatums, the latest of which expired on Sunday.
The national president, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, told reporters after the meeting that the industrial action became inevitable after the talks between the union and the Federal Government broke down.
He said the association was constrained to declare the industrial action due to the extremely poor progress in the resolution of their demands after expiration of several ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.
He lamented that unions had to resort to strike because government ” seems not to appreciate the need for constructive dialogue but only respond to strike actions.”
