Sen. Niagwan, who represented Plateau southern senatorial zone from 2003-2007, died before he was rushed to the hospital around 7:30 pm.
His Personal Assistant and nephew, Sunday Niagwan, confirmed the death. He said the late Senator had been hale and hearty and was not ill.
Niagwan said of the late Senator:
“He had gone to visit a friend at Festac town in Lagos but on his way back he slumped and before he was rushed to the hospital he passed away.”
The Plateau State PDP Chairman, Raymond Dabo, described the incident as a huge loss to the PDP family, adding:
“We have lost a kind-hearted politician and an elder of the state. He will be greatly missed.”
Late Niagwan was yet to secure his expression of interest and nomination form from the party but his posters expressing his intention to vie for the governorship seat have since circulated the state.
He is survived by a wife and six children.
