Tragedy struck in Rivers state On Tuesday as five people mysteriously died after eating dog meat at a popular inn at Woji, Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.

According to a Vanguard report, the dog meat was allegedly cooked by Friday Dickson, popularly called Etiaba.
Etiaba was said to have been running the inn at Mini-Woji road, Woji town, which cooks only dog meat.
Speaking on the matter, Brain Ogbondah, a member of the community said the five people were confirmed dead some hours after eating the dog meat.
He stated that the council of chiefs and elders had called an emergency meeting in order to locate other people in the community who also ate the dog meat.
Ogbondah added that the suspect fled the community after the five people were confirmed dead.
The tragic incident has increased tension in the community as the people are wondering what really happened.
A similar incident occurred last year August in Cross Rivers state. A man, his two children and two other people died after eating dog meat in the village of Uchenyim, Wanikade, North Ukelle area of the state.
