The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu has clarified that he is the one responsible for the collation of results in the forthcoming election.
Yakubu made this known as a result of the controversy that followed the appointment of Amina Zakari as the head of INEC’s collation center committee.
Ever since INEC announced Zakari as the head of the committee on Thursday, some Nigerians including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) kicked against the decision alleging that she cannot be trusted because she’s the blood relation (niece) of the APC candidate, Buhari. PDP said:
“There is no way Amina Zakari will not allocate votes to her blood relation, President Buhari with her as head of the committee”.
To clear the air, the INEC boss Mahmood Yakubu released a statement to newsmen saying:
“I am absolutely responsible for the coordination of the secretariat for the collation of results.
“But somebody has to prepare the venue for the conduct of the election, the internet service that we have to provide, accreditation of international observers and the media.”
