The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has urged the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to treat the controversial Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, with dignity and honour, now that he’s in their custody.
On Friday, December 28, 2018, Police officers had invaded Melaye’s Abuja home to arrest him for his alleged involvement in the shooting of a police officer, Sgt Danjuma Saliu, in July 2018.
Dino Melaye refused to surrender to the authorities and made several social media posts to taunt and accuse the Police of persecution.
However, after eight days siege in his Abuja residence, the lawmaker finally left his Maitama home to surrender to the authorities after his fellow lawmakers paid him a visit to persuade him to resolve the situation amicably.
Following his surrender, Senator Shehu Sani took to his Twitter page and urged the police to treat Melaye with dignity while in custody and to respect his fundamental human rights.
Sani wrote:
“Distinguished Senator Dino should be treated with dignity and honour and his fundamental rights respected, now that he has reportedly turned himself up to the Police.”
Meanwhile, Dino Melaye is currently at the Police Hospital in Abuja, receiving medical treatment after he suffered an asthmatic attack and collapsed as he surrendered to the Nigerian Police. (Read the report HERE).
