14 Persons Shot Dead As Unidentified Gunmen Invades Church During Sunday Service

Burkina Faso President condemns ‘barbaric’ attack, which took place as people attended Sunday services in West African country.

Not less than 14 people were killed during an attack by some gunmen on a Protestant church during Sunday services in Burkina Faso.

Several other people were wounded in the attack which took place in the village of Foutouri in the Est region of the country.

The president of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, condemned the barbaric attack on his Tsitter page.

“I condemn the barbaric attack against the Protestant Church of Hantoukoura in the department of Foutouri, which left 14 dead and several wounded.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” he wrote.

The identity of the gunmen is not yet clear but the area has come under attack over the past year from suspected jihadist groups with links to al Qaeda and Islamic State.

On Nov. 6 gunmen opened fire on a convoy of buses carrying mine workers in the Est region, killing 39.

Hundreds have been killed over the past year and nearly a million forced from their homes.
