#EndSARS: Ogun Government Invites Public To Monitor Prosecution Of Four Killer Police Officers

Ogun State Government has invited the general public to monitor the criminal cases against four defendant police officers allegedly involved in human rights violations in the state.

The invitation was issued by the by Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, in series of tweets on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

Adeniran stated that additional cases would be added as soon as charges to be filed against the defendant police officers were concluded.

He asked citizens to submit petitions or information on human rights abuses by security personnel to endsarsjudicialpanel@ogunstate.gov.ng.

“We invite the public to monitor the following criminal cases against defendant police officers in Ogun State:

1. The State v. Inspector Wasiu Lawal – Murder trial coming up for hearing on 10 November 2020 at the Ipokia Division of the High Court of Ogun State.

2. The State v. Okoi Obi – Manslaughter trial coming up for hearing on 2 December 2020 at the Ijebu-Ode Division of the High Court of Ogun State.

3. The State v. Inspector Niyi Ogunsoro – Murder trial at the Abeokuta Division of the High Court of Ogun State. Date of hearing to be communicated.

4. The State v. Inspector Ahmed Mohammed – Murder charge ready to be filed at the Ilaro Division of the High Court of Ogun State. Date of hearing to be communicated after filing.

Additional cases will be added as soon as charges to be filed against defendants are concluded.

KanyiDaily recalls that there had been an #EndSARS protest across the country against the SARS tactical unit of the Nigerian Police Force over its brutality, illegal arrest, extortion, extra-judicial killings, among others.
