Christians Benefited From Sharia Law When I Was Zamfara Governor – Ahmed Yerima

Ahmed Yerima said when he introduced Sharia law in Zamfara, Christians benefitted from it.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Ahmed Yerima has claimed that Christians benefited from the Sharia law when he was in power.

Ahmed Yerima Speaks On Sharia Law In Zamfara

The ex-governor, who declared for the 2023 presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke on Tuesday when he was featured on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’.

Yerima caught national attention in 1999 when he introduced the Shari’a legal code as Zamfara Governor, after which several other states in the north followed suit.

When asked during the programme if he thinks the north is better with Sharia law, the former governor said “yes, during my time”.

Yerima said, “During my time, if you check records, president Obasanjo declared in his government, that Zamfara state is a crime-free state. They said the crime rate in Zamfara at that time was 0.2 percent.

“Sharia means justice, equity and fairness. Ask the Christians in Zamfara, they’ll tell you that at that time, they were better off.

“Recently when I declared in Abuja, the chairperson, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Zamfara, was there. And he told Nigerians what kind of benefits the Christians had. There was social justice, and there was development.”

KkanyiDaily recalls that Ahmed Yerima had insisted that he did not violate the Nigerian Constitution when he enforced Sharia law in Zamfara, noting that he never compelled anyone to abandon their religion to follow Islam.
