President Buhari Visits Kano, Commiserates With Families Of Sabon Gari Explosion Victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Kano for the 58th Anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) which was postponed last week to honour the lives of nine people killed by an explosion in the state.

The president, who is in Kano for the annual programme tagged NAF Day Celebration 2022 which was initially billed to hold between May 19 and 21, paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero at his palace.

Speaking during the visit, Buhari told the Emir that he was in Kano for a national assignment but thought he should sympathize with him over the unfortunate incident that claimed lives some days earlier.

He said, “I am in Kano to condole the emir over the unfortunate incident that claimed some lives and to commiserate with the families of the victim. I pray for affected families and also praise the state government for being proactive.”

In his address, the Kano state governor Abdullahi Ganduje gave a breakdown of the assistance given to the victims of the explosion in presence of the affected families who were at the palace.

Ganduje said, “As soon as the incident occurred the state government took immediate action to save those affected and protect the affected area as well. Nine people died in the gas cylinder explosion and eleven others were injured.

“The state government gave N9 million to the affected families, N2 to those injured some of who are at the Greenfield Specialist Hospital and the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, N1 million to those who are mildly injured.

“More so, there are properties close to the scene that are affected that include two buildings that are damaged, they were given N2 million, and the Winners Academy Nursery/Primary School that were given N1 million.”

On his side, the Emir of Kano thanked Buhari for identifying with the bereaved families, saying that it signifies the President’s concern and love for Nigerians.

The Emir added that his Emirates would continue to pray for peace and stability in Nigeria, even as he commended the president for doing all he could to save the country from collapse,

He expressed hope that the forthcoming general elections would be peaceful and Nigeria would have desired leaders who are patriotic and concerned with the growth and progress of the country.

KanyiDaily had reported that many schoolchildren were killed last Tuesday morning when an explosion occurred near a private secondary school in Kano, destroying a residential building and affecting part of the school.
