Aisha Buhari’s Detained Critic, Aminu Mohammed Supported Deborah Samuel’s Killing

A student of the Federal University in Dutse Jigawa, Aminu Mohammed, who was recently remanded in prison for criticizing the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on social media, supported the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto.

Aminu Mohammed Arrested For Criticizing Aisha Buhari

The first lady was alleged to have ordered Mohammed’s arrest over a Twitter post where he claimed that she was feeding fat on poor people’s money.

Mohammed posted Aisha’s picture on Twitter with the caption “Su mama anchi kudin talakawa an koshi” (translated from Hausa, meaning “Mummy has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money”).

Months after, security operatives arrested him for the tweet which he posted in June and whisked him to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he was beaten and tortured, according to his uncle.

The student was subsequently arraigned at a court in Abuja on Tuesday, November 29, where he was denied bail despite pleading not guilty to the charges filed against him.

Due to this, many Nigerians primarily in the Southern part of the country, have been criticizing Aisha Buhari for detaining the 23-year-old student, while calling for his immediate release.

Amid the calls, it was discovered that Mohammed supported the killing of Deborah Samuel, a 21-year-old Christian college student in Sokoto who was killed by her Muslim colleagues after being accused of blasphemy.

KanyiDaily recalls that on May 22, Deborah was beaten and burnt to death by her Muslim colleagues over alleged blasphemous remarks considered to be an insult to Prophet Mohammed.

Deborah’s death had sparked outrage and condemnation across the country, with some Nigerians accusing security agents of abandoning the Christian student to be attacked and killed by the Muslim mob.

In an old tweet at that time, Mohammed shared a photo of a T-shirt with Deborah’s image, threatening that anyone who wears it will be severely dealt with in Bauchi state.

He tweeted “Duk Wanda yasa wannan rigar ah Bauchi sai munchi uwarsa” and it is translated as “whosoever wears this shirt in bauchi will be dealt with….. SEVERELY!!!”

The development has forced many Nigerians on Twitter, who initially called for Mohammed’s release, to dissociate themselves from him, with many saying he deserves the treatment being meted out to him for criticizing Aisha Buhari.

KanyiDaily recalls that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had apologized to Aisha Buhari over the embarrassment Aminu Mohammed’s action had caused her and called for his immediate release.
