Kenyan Chef Maliha Mohammed Starts Cook-A-Thon Trial, Aims To Break Hilda Baci’s Record

Kenyan chef, Maliha Mohammed has embarked on a cook-a-thon trial, aiming to break the cooking world record held by Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci.

On May 15, 2023, Hilda Baci achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by Chef Lata Tondon from Rewa, India in 2019.

The Akwa Ibom chef, who broke Tondon’s record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes to set a new world record as the first individual in the world to spend such an amount of time cooking.

The Guinness World Records finally confirmed Hilda Baci’s remarkable achievement on June 13, saying the chef cooked an impressive time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Last Month, Maliha Mohammed revealed that she had written to the Guinness World Records team in December 2022, informing them of her decision to challenge two cooking records in 2023.

In the email notification, Maliha said she would attempt to break two records including Hilda’s Longest Cooking by an Individual Marathon and the Home Kitchen Cooking Marathon.

The Kenyan Chef, who broke the Guinness World Record for the longest-time cooking with a remarkable 72-hour in 2018 and cooked for 75 hours in 2019, fixed August 11 and October 11 respectively for her two cook-a-thon in 2023.

Taking to her Instagram page on Friday, June 16, the 40-year-old chef announced that she would be doing her cooking trial in Tudor, Mombasa, and it will last for 55 hours and in that time, she will prepare 100 recipes.

She wrote, “Hellooooo Kenya and the world. Tomorrow will be cooking non stop for 55hours and making 100 recipes.
