Despite the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has maintained his belief that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 general remains the best candidate for a better Nigeria.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on March 1 declared Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the poll. Tinubu has since been inaugurated as the president of Nigeria.

The declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the election prompted Obi and other political parties and their candidates to seek legal redress.

Obi and his LP are currently in court challenging the validity of the electoral process that resulted in Tinubu’s victory.

In an exclusive interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo and posted on Friday, Obasanjo, who has never hidden his support for Obi, reiterated his belief that the former Anambra governor is the best candidate that the country needs.

He said, “For the Nigeria that I believe we need to have at this point in time, Peter Obi is still the best candidate, still the man.”

When reflecting on his most profound impact, the ex-president expressed, “My greatest legacy lies in the fact that I arrived on this earthly realm, where God’s boundless kindness was bestowed upon me, and His grace illuminated my path.”

Below is the video of the interview.

In other news, Kanyi Daily recalled that Obasanjo had suggested March 4th for the conduct of elections in the places where the 2023 general elections were disrupted, calling on INEC not “to set Nigeria on fire”.
