BREAKING: Enugu Government To Shut Down Schools, Markets That Observe Sit-At-Home Order

The Enugu Government has said it will shut down schools and markets that observe the “illegal” sit-at-home order in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia disclosed the government’s decision in a statement issued on Tuesday morning.

The statement which was posted on Twitter by the Head of Governor Peter Mbah’s media office, Dan Nwomeh, reads, “Enugu State gov’t to shut down schools and markets that observe illegal sit-at-home order in the state, the SSG said in a statement this morning.

“Schools, markets & shops in the various markets are to open & function normally from today or be shut down indefinitely.”

Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday, denied the claim that it has declared a one-week sit-at-home exercise across the South-East geo-political zone.

According to IPOB, the clarification was necessary because the rumors generated tension and panic in the region.

The rumour of a one-week sit-at-home, starting from July 3 to July 9, purportedly declared by Simon Ekpa’s faction of the IPOB group has been making the rounds across the region for some days now.

Spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful in a statement, called South-East residents should ignore the “rabble-rousers”, insisting there is no such thing as sit-at-home.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the Enugu government’s decision comes barely a month after the state Governor, Peter Mbah condemned the Monday sit-at-home order by IPOB in the state.

The governor said no one should encourage the crippling of the state’s economy but must work to ensure it is revived.
