JUST IN: Tinubu Arrives Benin Republic

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Cotonou, Benin Republic to attend the 63rd anniversary of that country.

Tinubu and his entourage were received by Benin Republic President, Patrice Talon and key government officials

The Nigerian leader and his entourage departed Nigeria on Tuesday morning.

The president was accompanied on the one-day visit by some of his political aides and six governors which include Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara); Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).

The two presidents had first met with Talon on the sidelines of the summit on the New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France.

Tinubu and Talon later again met at the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Guinea-Bissau and recently in Abuja over the political development in Niger Republic, where the Benin Republic President invited him for the anniversary.

President Tinubu had drawn the attention of the Beninese leader to the need to review and strengthen cultural, trade, and economic relations between their two countries, highlighting joint border patrols by the Customs and harmonizing regulations on the frontlines.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike was on Monday, screened and cleared by the senate for a ministerial role.

Wike was among the 28 names of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate last week by President Bola Tinubu.
