On Saturday, Ngozi Ezeonu shared a photo of a burning candle with the caption “A rare gem is gone,” sparking rumors of her demise.
Some media outlets subsequently reported that the 58-year-old actress had died, supposedly confirmed by her son.
However, in a video shared via her Instagram page on Wednesday, Ngozi Ezeonu debunked the death report and asserting her vitality and well-being.
Expressing her dissatisfaction with the bloggers who propagated the false information, the actress emphasized that the burning candle in her post was in memory of her deceased friend.
She urged responsible journalism practices, advising against spreading unverified news and highlighting the importance of confirming stories before publishing.
“The calls I’ve been receiving have been very worrisome. I don’t know why anybody should take my post.
“I lost a very close friend of mine, I posted a candle, a half-burnt candle and they now put my picture on that candle and everybody is saying that I died. It is wrong. I am alive and healthy, please.
“In journalism, what you do when in doubt you leave out. If you cannot get across to the person to at least confirm the story, you don’t post. Don’t do that, please. Don’t try it again.
“This is a new year, why would anybody want to hurt each other just because they want people to follow them,” Ngozi said in parts.
KanyiDaily recalls that actor Tony Umez had also addressed the rumors circulating about his alleged death, assuring his fans that he is in good health and very much alive.
