In March 2023, Bala Mohammed was declared the winner of the Bauchi governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He secured 525,280 votes, defeating Sadique Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, who received 432,272 votes.
Following his defeat, Abubakar contested the election outcome at the tribunal, but in September 2023, the tribunal dismissed his petition.
The court of appeal in November 2023 also affirmed Bala Mohammed’s victory, ruling that the appellants failed to provide specific details about alleged irregularities in polling units.
On Friday, January 12, 2024, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court also dismissed Sadique Abubakar’s appeal, stating that it lacked merit.
The court reiterated the findings of the court of appeal, affirming Bala Mohammed’s election as the governor of Bauchi state.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Supreme Court also affirmed Babajide Sanwo-Olu‘s position as the duly elected governor of Lagos State.
