Seyi Law Dragged For Calling Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour ‘The Son Of A Returned Slave’

Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law is facing criticism after referring to Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, as the son of a returned slave.

A Twitter user named Uncle Charles expressed disapproval of Seyi Law’s comments on Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), who contested the 2023 Lagos state governorship election.

In a statement posted on Twitter on Monday, Seyi Law stated that if his children were to emulate GRV’s qualities, then they should not be considered fit to lead the Yoruba people.

The comedian emphasized his pride in being a Yoruba man and asserted that he would not renounce his cultural identity.

I have said it repeatedly that if my children lack the culture of respect, honor, truthfulness, bravery, and traditional understanding of the Yoruba people, may they not be honored in Yoruba land. I am a very proud Yoruba man. You will be dead before I renounce it,” he said.

Responding to Seyi Law’s remarks, Uncle Charles described the comedian as an “ignorant” person and claimed that Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is more connected to Lagos than Seyi Law.

Uncle Charles also referred to Seyi Law as a “stack ignorant illiterate” and highlighted Gbadebo’s qualifications as an MIT-trained architect and a young technocrat with deep roots in Lagos.

He tweeted, “Imagine Seyi Law, a stack ignorant illiterate whose qualification is a roadside recharge card seller, using such bigoted words to address an MIT-trained architect, a son of the soil of Lagos State; a vibrant, young technocrat from Lagos State who can trace his ancestry as far back.”

Reacting to the criticism, Seyi Law defended his position, asserting that he holds a more significant stake in Lagos than Gbadebo, whom he described as the son of a returned slave.

Seyi Law dismissed Gbadebo’s ties to Lagos and insisted on his own stronger connection to the city, emphasizing his roots as an ILAJE with Mahin origin.

He wrote, “Your stupid father should have taught you that I am more of a bigger stakeholder in Lagos than the son of a returned slave who decided to stay in Lagos.

“O da bi aye awon to bi e fe baje. I am an ILAJE with Mahin origin. Go and ask about us in Lagos before the partitioning of states. Olosi ikeji aja. Ka a da fun e.”

The exchange escalated when another Twitter user accused Seyi Law of using slavery to gain social leverage and criticized him as a failed comedian.

You’re an African man using slavery to score cheap social points. You’re nothing but a lanky wanky, mentally twisted failed comedian. Angels on internship moulded you, God saw the prototype then stepped out to the backyard to laugh. Baba Suwe that stopped downloading at 23%,” the netizen wrote.

KanyiDaily recalls that Seyi Law recently offered a message of hope to Nigerians during challenging times, saying that he believes the country would greatly succeed.
