This comes as security has been increased at the two palaces occupied by the rival princes, Aminu Ado-Bayero and Lamido Sanusi, who are both vying for the emirate’s leadership.
On Sunday, June 23, reports emerged that police officers replaced the local hunters who had been guarding Lamido Sanusi’s palace after his reinstatement.
Ado-Bayero, removed by the Kano state government last month, is currently at the Nasarawa mini palace.
On Monday, outgoing Commissioner of Police in Kano, Usaini Gumel, announced that both palaces have been fortified with additional security personnel.
“Armed personnel have been deployed to provide security at the Kofar Kudu Palace, the residence of Emir Malam Mohammadu Sunusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, the residence of Emir Aminu Bayero.” Gumel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“The police appeal for public support and urge residents to provide information that could aid in maintaining peace, progress, and political stability.”
Gumel reassured the public of the police command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, allowing them to carry out their daily activities without threats to their lives or property.
“The command is committed to providing the required security that will enable all residents to pursue their legitimate activities without threats to lives and property,” Gumel stated.
KanyiDaily recalls that Kano State Government had directed the police Commissioner to remove the deposed Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, from the mini palace “where he is trespassing.”
