Actress Hilda Dokubo Denies Being Suspended As Labour Party Chairperson In Rivers [Video]

Hilda Dokubo, a Nollywood actress and the Labour Party (LP) chairperson in Rivers state, has denied claims that she was suspended from her party.

Reports had suggested Hilda Dokubo was suspended on Thursday, July 18, by the LP’s ward executive committee in Asari Toru local government area.

A letter signed by the ward chairman, secretary, and treasurer had announced her suspension, accusing the actress of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and other violations.

However, in a video shared on her Instagram page on Saturday, Dokubo stated that she was never suspended.

The actress said that the names of those who signed her alleged suspension letter were members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) attempting to damage her reputation.

Hilda Dokubo  alleged that she had been “coerced, threatened, bribed” but the allegations were a “new way to hurt me”.

She emphasized her integrity, citing her unblemished 30-year career in Nollywood and her work with international organizations.

I was never suspended. Everybody in that publication is a non-Labour Party member because the Labour Party has a register and we know all our members, especially in Asarito torí which is a small community. So these are all PDP boys carrying out the instructions of their master,” she said.

So the question would be why? For over 30 years, I have worked in Nollywood with no blemish, no scandal. I have worked for 10 years with international organizations. Not one day was it mentioned that I took anything. Because my work is heavy on integrity and honour. Those are the things they investigate before any job is given to you.

“When they say you venture into politics, you get into murky water. This is corruption pushing back. This is why I am doing this broadcast this may just be one of several that would come. So let me preempt you.”

The actress assured her supporters that the allegations were false and urged them to stay focused on strengthening their party.

Dokubo reiterated that she is the Labour Party chairman for Rivers state and not involved in financial matters.

She encouraged party members to continue their work and not be distracted by these attempts to discredit her.

My lovers we have work to do. We are doing revalidation of membership and registering members, strengthening our wards. Stay focused do not get distracted. When people try to bribe you and you refuse to be bribed, they threaten you and you refuse to be threatened. They are most definitely going to look for a way to hurt you.

“At no time was I suspended. Had no time to have any dealings with money. We do not have money. I am the chairman of the Labour Party Rivers state, not a financial secretary or treasurer, I am not even an executive of ward 3. So I think they missed the point out there. So we go back to work,” she added.

KanyiDaily recalls that during the 2023 election, Hilda Dokubo contested for the House of Representatives under the Labour Party (LP) in Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency in Rivers.
