Nigerian Sprinter, Favour Ofili Reveals Why She Won’t Compete In 100m Rate At Paris Olympics

Nigerian sprinter, Favour Ofili has revealed why she won’t compete in the 100-meter race at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Taking to her X page on Tuesday, July 30, Favour Ofili expressed her frustration due to administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).

Despite qualifying for the Olympics, the sprinter revealed that Nigerian officials failed to enter her, repeating the same issue that occurred at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Ofili, who competes in the 100m and 200m events, was supposed to represent Nigeria along with Tima Godbless and Rosemary Chukwuma in the 100m.

However, the AFN, NOC, and the National Anti-Doping Committee (NADC) did not register her for the event, costing her the opportunity.

In her post, she called for accountability from those responsible and expressed her distrust in these organizations.

The Louisiana State University (LSU) Track and Field alumna hopes to compete in the 200-meter event.

She wrote, “It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 metres at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for four years to earn this opportunity. For what?”

“Please remember, in the last Olympic Games, I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes to be tested, which made 14 Nigerian athletes that qualified to not compete. Now this……”

“If those responsible are not held accountable for taking this opportunity from me, neither organisation can ever be trusted in the future! Next one is the 200 metres. I hope I’m entered.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerian boxer, Cynthia Ogunsemilore was recently suspended from the 2024 Paris Olympics for violating anti-doping rules.
