Court Grants Taraba Ex-Governor Darius Ishaku N150m Bail Over N27bn Fraud Allegation

The FCT High Court has granted former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, bail of N150 million, with two sureties who must provide the same amount.

Justice Sylvanus Oriji held that the sureties must live in Abuja, and their home addresses will be verified by the court registrar.

The judged added that that one of the sureties must be a director in the Federal Civil Service.

The court also restricted both the ex-governor and his co-defendant, Bello Hero, from leaving the country without permission.

Ishaku was brought to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦27 billion fraud.

The EFCC, represented by Rotimi Jacobs, did not oppose the bail request, noting that Darius Ishaku had previously been granted administrative bail without any issues.

Justice Oriji then announced that the next trial is scheduled to begin on November 4, 5, and 13.

Darius Ishaku, who served as governor from May 2015 to May 2023, was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

KanyiDaily recalls that Darius Ishaku is facing a 15-count charge involving criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and the misappropriation of public funds amounting to N27 billion.
