On Wednesday, October 8, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), explained that getting permission would help prevent any misunderstandings.
However, he did not clarify the specific situations in which permission would be needed for singing or using the anthem’s lyrics.
“As custodians of Nigeria’s national symbols, the NOA is tasked with preventing all forms of misuse,” Issa-Onilu stated.
“The DG emphasised that permission must be sought from the Agency before using the National Anthem to avoid misrepresentation.”
He also pointed out that the Nigerian flag is green, white, and green, with the correct shade of green being Emerald 2.0.
Issa-Onilu emphasized that previous governments prioritized infrastructure over value orientation, which caused a decline in social organizations like the Boys’ Scouts, Girls’ Brigade, WAI Brigade, and the National Orientation Agency itself.
He noted that the current administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, recognizes this issue and is now supporting the agency.
The NOA DG also emphasized the need for local cartoon content to combat the influence of foreign values on young Nigerians.
KanyiDaily had published a video circulating on social media showing Nigerian footballers and celebrities struggling to recite the newly introduced old national anthem.
