Acting COAS Calls for Unity Among Security Agencies, Emphasizes Discipline at RSM Convention 2024

In a strong call for unity and discipline, the Acting Chief of Army Staff (Ag COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Nigeria Police to curb inter-agency rivalry and exemplify excellence in their duties.

This charge was delivered during the recently concluded Second RSM Convention 2024, held at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA) in Apapa, Lagos State.

Themed “Fostering Improved Discipline and Regimentation in the Nigerian Army for Enhanced Capacity to Accomplish Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment,” the convention brought together over 200 participants from various security agencies.

Speaking at the event, General Oluyede underscored the vital role of discipline and regimentation in fostering cooperation between the Armed Forces, police, and other security and intelligence agencies. He stressed the urgent need for RSMs to improve personnel discipline to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and present a united front in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

“All hands must be on deck in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other crimes. The RSMs must also mentor subordinates and proactively present their challenges to higher authorities to maintain a motivated and capable force,” Oluyede stated.

He called on participants to adopt a positive attitude toward joint operations, essential for restoring peace and stability across troubled regions of the country.

Infrastructure Development in Yaba:

In addition to the convention, General Oluyede commissioned a newly constructed 68-room interns’ accommodation at the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba, Lagos. The facility, featuring ensuite rooms and common areas, aims to improve the welfare of soldiers and interns.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the new edifice to avoid unnecessary resource expenditure and announced plans to develop additional accommodation to meet soldiers’ needs.

Major General Jimmy Akpor, the Chief of Administration Army (COA), also addressed the convention, highlighting RSMs’ critical role as the bridge between officers and soldiers. He encouraged participants to lead by example and contribute to improving discipline across formations and units.

The event drew senior officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Nigeria Police, reinforcing the commitment to cohesive security operations in Nigeria.

By prioritizing discipline, mentorship, and collaboration, the Nigerian Armed Forces and police are taking strides toward building a unified and formidable force to address the nation’s security challenges.
