Nicki Minaj, celebrated for her global hits and versatility, made these remarks on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday while discussing her recent collaboration with the Afrobeats icon.
Her comments came in response to a question from an X user, Tae, who goes by the handle #barbiefyr.
Tae had asked on Wednesday, “What drew you to Davido for the song ‘If it’s Okay’? In my opinion, he was an ideal choice for this incredible masterpiece! He was speaking that ish.”
In her reply, Nicki Minaj explained that their collaboration was rooted in mutual respect, which made the creative process smooth and enjoyable.
The rapper shared that she specifically sought Davido’s input to bring an authentic Afrobeat flavor to her music.
Praising Davido’s talent, she wrote, “That man is an incredible writer & melody maker. It’s always a pleasure working with him b/c of our mutual respect for one another. I asked him to be apart of it in order to bring out the Afro beats tempo/feeling in it a bit more. 🇳🇬 Naija to the 🌎.”
