In an interview on “The Morning Hustle”, the Nigerian singer reflected on the recent US presidential election, describing it as a model of true democracy, something he believes Nigeria lacks.
Davido, who holds US citizenship, revealed he voted for Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party, expressing his hope to witness the first female president of the United States in his lifetime.
The 32-year-old artist praised the smooth electoral process in the US, calling it a clear reflection of the people’s choice.
Despite Donald Trump winning the election, Davido said he respected the outcome and congratulated the winner, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values.
The singer also highlighted why many Nigerians prefer to born their children abroad, pointing to better opportunities and fewer bureaucratic obstacles like visa challenges.
Davido said, “Apart from having better facilities overseas, people want to have their kids outside the country because it will save them the hassle of visas and stuff like that.
“I congratulated Trump. He is the president. If I was running against him I would still congratulate him. Whatever happens in that cubicle is between me and the paper.
“What I like about America is that there is true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so. The truth is people voted for him. I voted for Kamala. I actually wanted to see the first female president of my generation. People voted. So, whatever happens, happens.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Davido recently faced criticism over his comments on Nigeria’s struggling economy during an interview on a radio station in the United States.
