Dele Farotimi Breaks Down In Tears As He Thank Nigerians For Supporting Him [Video]

Human rights activist, Dele Farotimi has expressed deep gratitude to Nigerians who supported him during his time in detention, regardless of tribal or religious differences.

Farotimi was detained for 21 days at the Ekiti State Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti following allegations of “criminal defamation” against senior advocate Afe Babalola in his book titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.”

On December 24, Dele Farotimi was released after the court granted him bail set at ₦30 million.

In an emotional interview shared on social media after his release, the human rights lawyer tearfully thanked Nigerians who stood by him.

“We stopped being humans because we became Nigerians. They divided us and we fell for it. Because you would not see me as a Yoruba man, you spoke for me,” he said.

“You would not see me as a Christian, you spoke for me. Because you spoke, Nigeria could not happen to me. You found your voices, I became you and in our collective, we could not be silenced.”

Reflecting on his ordeal, Farotimi acknowledged the hardships but remained resolute.

He said, “I am strong enough to rumble unruffled against principalities and powers, but I am human enough to retain the capacity to shed tears of joy in appreciation of the grace of God, expressed in the concerted efforts of fellow victims.”

He vowed to continue his fight, saying, “My battle axes are newly sharpened, my guns primed, I am ready to war. My resolve was NEVER tested, but I was waiting for next round of the fight to commence. I KNEW that the first round had been lost by those responsible for my imprisonment.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Dele Farotimi emphasized that he never lied against Afe Babalola, asserting that everything he has said about people or institutions is based on truth.
