Kano Ex-Commissioner, Sani Abbas Dumps NNPP For APC After Being Sacked By Governor

Abbas Sani Abbas, a former Kano State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, has left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sani Abbas, who was recently dismissed along with five other commissioners by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, announced his defection during a visit to the Kano residence of Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, on Friday night.

This move is part of a broader wave of defections from the NNPP, dubbed the “Barau Tsunami.”

Over recent months, the party has seen leaders from all 44 local government areas in Kano, along with their supporters, leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement to align with the APC.

The NNPP has been under pressure recently, with internal calls for Governor Yusuf to tighten his grip on governance.

The governor recently dismissed several key officials, including Secretary to the State Government Dr. Abdullahi Bichi and five commissioners, one of whom was Abbas.

At Senator Barau’s residence, Abba Sani Abbas pledged his loyalty to the APC and vowed to work toward the party’s success in Kano State and beyond.

Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, welcomed Abbas to the APC and emphasized the party’s commitment to good governance, inclusivity, and service to the people.

He assured Abbas of the APC’s support and its vision for a stronger Kano State and Nigeria.

The defection event was attended by key APC figures, including Kano State APC Chairman Prince Abdullahi Abbas and other party leaders.

As the NNPP faces mounting challenges with the loss of high-profile members, the APC is solidifying its political influence in Kano, reshaping the state’s political landscape.

KanyiDaily recalls that Yusuf Imam, the chairman of Nasarawa Local Government in Kano State, recently made headlines after appointing 60 people as aides.
