Marlian Records Introduced Me To Drugs, They Were Too Gangster – Fabian Blu [Video]

Nigerian singer, Fabian Blu has opened up about his troubling experience at Marlian Records, claiming he was introduced to drugs while under the label.

During his time at Marlian Records, owned by rapper Naira Marley, the singer released five tracks, including “Instagram” and “Rolla Costa”.

Fabian Blu also collaborated with other artists on the label, such as Zinoleesky and the late Mohbad.

In a recent interview on “WithChude” Fabian Blu criticized the label which he was signed to from 2020 to 2022.

The singer described the environment as “too gangster” and said his time there felt like being in prison.

He alleged that the management controlled his creativity, forcing him to make music that aligned with their style rather than his own artistic vision.

Fabian Blu further alleged that Marlian Records withheld his royalties after he left in 2022.

He accused the label of tribalism, exploitation, and fostering a culture of substance abuse.

“I got introduced to drugs in Marlian Music. I got signed to the record label. I have never liked the whole Marlian music kind of lifestyle. They were too gangster,” he said.

“I have met a lot of Yoruba people as friends. But getting to that Marlian music, I met a different set of Yoruba people. There was tribalism in the record. It was chaotic and dysfunctional.

“I was not given the free will to express my creativity. All of my songs in Marlian Music were a result of they wanted it to sound that way. They have not given me my share of royalties ever since I have been with them.”

He also claimed that he faced discrimination for not being Muslim and was denied opportunities within the label.

That place was like a prison to me. When Mohbad died. I was abused in Marlian music because I was not a Muslim I cannot get favours from them,” he added.
