Akpabio Petitions IGP, Seeks Investigation Of Natasha Akpoti Over Assassination Claim

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has written to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, asking for a thorough investigation into allegations made against him by Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Akpabio is accusing Natasha of making false and dangerous claims, and he wants her prosecuted for criminal defamation, incitement, false accusation, and actions that could lead to public disorder.

During a recent event in Kogi State on April 1, Natasha Akpoti alleged that Akpabio had directed Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello to have her assassinated.

The suspended senator, who accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, made this claim in front of a crowd while addressing her supporters.

In his petition to the police chief, Akpabio described the accusation as a “heinous lie” intended to smear his name and stir up unrest.

The senate president said such a serious and unfounded statement demands urgent action from law enforcement.

He stressed that public figures should be held accountable for their words, especially when those words can damage the image of others or destabilize democratic systems.

Akpabio added that there is no truth or evidence backing the senator’s claim, calling it a politically driven effort to paint him as a villain and discredit him in the eyes of the public.

“In the public outburst at Kogi State while addressing her audience, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan falsely alleged that I instructed the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to ‘assassinate her in Kogi State instead of Abuja’ with the intent of making it appear that her constituents were responsible for her death,” Akpabio said.

“This statement is not only a heinous lie but also a reckless and deliberate attempt to damage my reputation, endanger my life and security, and incite political unrest.

“I categorically state that this allegation is entirely false, unfounded, and politically motivated. It is a calculated act of blackmail and character assassination, designed to portray me as a political villain, and the statement was made without any shred of truth or supporting evidence.”

The two lawmakers have been at odds for some time. Their feud became public after a disagreement in the Senate chamber over seating arrangements.

Following that clash, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

In March, the Senate suspended her for six months, citing violations of its rules. The suspension followed shortly after her confrontation with the Senate President.

KanyiDaily recalls that Natasha Akpoti recently took legal action against Akpabio, accusing him of contempt of court over her six-month suspension from the Senate.
